Win moves Sharks up to third spot
Dampier Sharks had an important win over Port Hedland Rovers League in their Saturday night round eight clash.
The 13.13 (91) to 10.10 (70) result to the Sharks puts some distance between the two teams, which along with the Karratha Kats have been occupying the middle of the table in close company so far this season.
Sharks were consistently up a few goals from the start and kept up that pace to gradually extend their lead to 21 points by the final siren.
Rovers were never far behind but could not manage to catch up from behind and narrow the margin.
Sharks had several high goal-scorers in Ashley Cooper, Harrison Weeding and Shane McIntosh who scored three each.
Ben Gasior also slotted in three for the Rovers.
The result sends the Sharks up to third place on the NPFL ladder, jumping over the Kats after they drew with the Wickham Wolves this round.
Rovers are now a game down on both teams and sitting in fifth place.
Earlier in the night, the Sharks reserves side thrashed the Rovers in their match.
Dampier had a scoring field day, especially in the second and third quarters, while the Rovers struggled to make an impact on the scoreboard for most of the game.
They came together in the last quarter to kick two goals but it was too little too late.
The final score was 12.11 (83) to 2.2 (14).
