Wolves rebound to sink Sharks

Wickham Wolves recovered after their shock loss last week to chalk up a resounding win against the Dampier Sharks.

The round seven league game at Wickham Oval on Saturday saw the home side triumph by 79 points to maintaining their hold on second place in the competition.

Wolves led from the start and benefited from an early lead.

The second quarter proved to be the clincher.

Wolves ran rampant to score seven goals and three points, while Sharks managed only one behind against the onslaught.

Dampier more or less matched Wickham’s scoring shots in the last half of the game, but it was far too late by then to make up the extra ground.

The final score was 21.10 (136) to 8.9 (57).

Wolves’ Jarrod Cross slotted seven goals to consolidate his position as the competition’s top goalkicker so far this season, while teammates Tyson Nicholas and Landon Punch scored three each.

Sharks’ Layton Cooper kicked three majors for his side.

Wickham also blitzed their Dampier opponents in the reserves clash.

Sharks struggled to make an impression on the scoreboard throughout and were scoreless in the third term.

It gave Wolves a 16.9 (105) to 5.7 (37) win that keeps them on top of the ladder over the Port Hedland Rovers on percentage.

Wickham’s Luke Oestmann kicked an impressive six goals.
