Driver collided with moving chemical train near Hopkinson road in Cardup
A freight train crashed into a car on the tracks in Perth’s south on Sunday morning, after the driver claimed a lack of boom bar at the crossing failed to deter him from moving forward.
The 34-year-old man escaped without injury when he clipped the incoming train transporting chemicals.
Police say he failed to stop at the rail crossing near Hopkinson Road in Cardup just before 8.30am on Sunday
While lights were flashing to indicate the train coming, the driver’s friend Adelen Chew said it was dangerous that the rail crossing did not have a boom bar.
“I didn’t realise there were no boom bars, I mean it’s really dangerous,” she said.
“When you look at the wreckage, I really think that I feel for him like, I’m just glad there was no-one else in the car.”
Police issued the driver with an infringement notice.
