French Film Festival returns to BREC to join French and Australian cultures after last year’s popularity

The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre will host the returning Alliance Francaise French Film Festival in April. Running from April 10 to April 13, the festival will celebrate the cultural connection between Australia and France, with an audience development of cultural understanding. Talent from new and upcoming French filmmakers would be featured, with performances direct from the Cannes Film Festival. Chief executive officer for the film festival Frederic Alliod said they have lined up a screening of “special events” for 2025, and promised an exclusive cinematic experience. “While France is recognised as an avant-garde country in the arts, the festival will explore the real-life stories of prominent French cultural figures,” he said. “We’re excited to introduce Australian audiences not only to the iconic figures of French cinema, but also to a new wave of emerging directors.” Nine films would be featured, with themes that include comedy, drama, hope, failures, and success. The well-known The Count of Monte Cristo will debut as part of the festival in Australia, alongside My Brother’s Band and Before What Comes After. Opening night is in the Sky Bar of BREC, catered by La Pause Miam with refreshments provided and promised to be a “frivolous French affair”. Tickets are now available.
