Greenbushes RSL hall reopened with Veterans Issues Minister Paul Papalia

The Greenbushes branch of the Returned and Services League officially opened its refurbished hall recently, with works to remove asbestos and facility upgrades. The refurbished hall was opened on November 22 by the Veterans Issues Minister Paul Papalia and RSL WA board member David Thomas. Renovations done to the hall — which was originally built in 1924 and has homed the RSL since 1949 — included a refurbishment of the kitchen and facade, replacement floors and a new roof. Greenbushes RSL president Trevor Bottomley said fundraising efforts, the sale of a rear block on Blackwood Road and a grant from Talison Lithium had funded the project. “Additional money was raised from fundraising opportunities, but a significant community grant was obtained from Talison Lithium who must be commended on their support for our small community,” Mr Bottomley said. “The facility is now a great community asset, primarily thanks to Talison.” Talison Lithium general manager operations Craig Dawson said the company was pleased to provide $190,000 through its Community Investment Program. “It is a great opportunity and privilege to support one of our RSLs who do a lot for the community, and have done a lot for their country,” he said. “The building is now functional and safe, and can now be available to be used by the community.” The opening was also attended by Member for Warren Blackwood Jane Kelsbie, Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes president Jenny Mountford, Bridgetown RSL president Peter Sarles, and Greenbushes RSL volunteers.
