Perth residents will now be able to avoid those eye-watering surge prices when trying to get home during odd hours in “one of the biggest transport shake-ups in the State for decades”.

Swan Taxis announced on Tuesday that they would be changing to fixed-price fares for the first time ever, meaning the price of a car ride will not change during peak hours, on a public holiday or at 3am.

The change is part of a new partnership between Swan Taxis and 13cabs that will result in Swan’s 1000 vehicles being co-branded with Australia’s largest taxi company.

Customers will also be able to make payments through an app, removing the need to pay separately at the end of a trip.

The company is expanding throughout WA and will operate in Broome, Geraldton and Mandurah under the 13cabs brand.

13cabs chief operating officer Olivia Barry — who will be responsible for the company’s WA branch — said the new partnership would result in a smoother experience for customers.

“Access to fixed price fares is a great outcome for WA residents as they will know exactly what their fare will be,” she said.

“Booking through the 13cabs app also gives our customers the choice and flexibility to book in several ways most convenient to them – via the app, online, through interactive voice response or speaking to an operator.

“Our Drivers are the backbone of our business. They are genuinely excited about the changes, very customer service orientated and professionally trained.”
