Pilbara children had a busy start to their school holidays with a host of different activities occurring throughout the region.

Wickham Youth Group ran morning and afternoon activities last week including skate and basketball workshops, a trip to Roebourne Pool and a chocolate-themed cooking class.

Shire of Roebourne youth services officer Donna Heperi-Boulger said more than 35 participants and parents attended the Chocolate Heaven workshop to create chocolate crackles, Nutella and marshmallow ice-cream, fudge slice and moulded Easter eggs.

"It's great to see so much community involvement," she said.

"We had real support, with mums coming and lending a helping hand."

In Tom Price children got a chance to play forensic scientist with a mock crime. EG Incursions ran the workshops which centred on a crime scene.

Participants were tasked with taping off an area to protect evidence, then identifying, collecting, interpreting and analysing clues.

It included finding, developing and characterising fingerprints, investigating tool marks and other impressions, identifying hairs and fibres, and investigating blood, bones and DNA. The school holiday programs continue this week.
