The Dampier Sharks have dealt another early blow to the North Pilbara Football League powerhouse Port Hedland Rovers with wins in both grades on Saturday at Windy Ridge Oval.

Struggling with injuries the Rovers No.1 team had about seven of their regular players missing, meaning a lot of the footballers from the reserves grade had to step up.

Sharks set the tone of the match early, dominating the possession and getting forward in numbers as they booted eight goals in the first quarter to Rovers' one.

When Rovers got the ball up their end they were deadly accurate and did not kick one behind all night.

Rovers' Mark Cashion didn't miss when given the opportunity and kicked five goals.

The second quarter went a bit better for Rovers as they grabbed five goals to Sharks' to make some headway on the Sharks' big early lead.

However, the margin became insurmountable with 13 goals in the second half for the home team, who put up a massive 25.14 (164) to 9.0 (54) win.

It was a shooting gallery for the Sharks who had 13 different goal scorers.

The most majors went to James Rhodes (4), Ryan Hawke (3), and Blake Waterhouse (3).

Rovers league coach Greg Mastrangelo pulled on the boots as a player and was one of three coaches to take to the field at the weekend.

Sharks league coach Kristian Dicton had a run in the first half of the reserves match and grabbed a goal for his efforts.

Rovers reserves coach Russell Pyke showed his heart bled red, white and blue when he had a run in the same game but fell foul of the umpires and picked up a yellow card.

Sharks reserves got their first win of the season, 11.10 (76) to 4.9 (33).

Key forwards Layton Cooper (five goals) and Mark Brierley (2) had a field day while steady head Aaron Bruce, with two goals, and ruckman John O'Reilly brought some much-needed experience to the reserves' midfield.
