Funding is available for a program supporting youth arts projects promoting drug awareness in regional WA.

People aged 12 to 26, and living regionally, are encouraged to apply for funding up to $6000 for the Country Arts WA program Drug Aware YCulture Regional.

Fourteen projects were supported in 2014, including one in Port Hedland where music workshops were held by a group called Junkadelic and catered to about 130 participants.

The workshops taught participants how to make instruments from recycled materials and apply their music skills.

Chief executive Country Arts WA chief executive Jessica Machin said Drug Aware was an important message for regional WA and the arts was the best vehicle to increase its reach to regional young people.

"This program provides the opportunity for young people to develop management and artistic skills that meets their needs and interests all while promoting a significant health message," she said.

Country Arts WA can provide support to applicants through all stages of submitting and enacting a project.

The program is open year round.
