Fundraiser a great day out

The fifth annual Muzzy's Community Fundraiser and Trade Show went off without a hitch on May 24 and facilitated a fun family day of fundraising for Tom Price community groups.

Event organiser Suzanne Edwards said so far $14,000 had been counted, and while not as high as last year because of a bit of a downturn in the town, it was still a great figure.

"The day was absolutely perfect and all the groups had a wonderful time," she said.

"It seemed as though anyone who could be in Tom Price made it out on the day and the kids had an absolute ball. It was really what the community needed and it brought us all together."

Some of the major winners on the day included Charles and Dianne Hayden who won a spa from the event's main raffle, Garrett Gorges who won a $2000 Home Hardware gift card and Claire Hester who won a garden package.

Mrs Edwards said the fundraiser had been a community effort putting on the event with army cadets arriving at 5am to help set up, Rio Tinto providing assistance with power requirements and the Shire of Ashburton assisting in the overall running of the day.

"We're especially grateful for the support from 20 small local businesses who donated prizes and in-kind donations," she said.

"The tradeshow also went well, King Chrome and Hitachi offered some amazing deals … which you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else and the community got some really good bargains."

Two more related events which went well were the psychic brunch and lunch, as well as the Tom Price Bowling Club's dinner event.

Mrs Edwards said plans were already in the works for next year's event and they had already started analysing what had worked this year and what changes could be made for next.

For the moment though, Mrs Edwards and the other members of the community who helped organise and run the day will take a well-earned rest.
