A serious water emergency is unfolding off the Perth coast after a vessel overturned and several people were thrown into the water.

Water police were alerted to reports of an overturned vessel in the ocean near Jindalee just before 7am.

Is it believed at least two people have been pulled from the water. They are being taken to the boat ramp at Mindarie Keys.

St John WA are also responding to the incident, with the RAC Rescue helicopter believed to have landed in Mindarie.

A man in his 70s has been taken to Joondalup Health Campus under normal road conditions.

A second man, also in his 70s, is understood to be critical.

The incident follows another boating accident in Mindarie on Monday evening.

A 5.5m half-cabin boat had capsized directly out from the Mindarie Marina, about 1.5km offshore from Claytons Beach.

Three men onboard, two men in their 50s and one in his 20s, were forced to sit on the hull of the overturned vessel where they activated an EPIRB.

Another vessel from the marina helped by picking up the three men, who were not injured and were returned to short by 5.20pm.

Earlier on Monday, a 21m boat caught fire off Cottesloe Beach. The two people on board were taken safely back to Fremantle.

More to come.
