Karratha Kats have rubbed salt into the wounds of last year's beaten grand final rivals, Port Hedland Rovers, trouncing them by 116 points in last weekend's North Pilbara Football League clash.

The Kats showed no mercy to the Rovers, who were kept to a solitary goal for the entire match, booting just 1.5 (11) against the Kats' 18.19 (127).

In a measure of the Kats' dominance, they boasted 10 separate goal kickers compared to the Rovers' one.

However, Kats coach Shane Mallard cautioned against reading too much into the result.

"The scoreboard reflects a big win, but we are aware that Rovers didn't have a full side with quite a few guys needing to stay home for work," he said.

"We understand they will be a very different side next time we play them, but we were still very happy with our full four-quarter effort."

He also praised his defenders, who were relentless all game.

"We are pleased with our backline … they worked really hard and allowed our forwards to have those shots on goal," he said.

Perhaps the only blight on the Kats' win was their inaccuracy in front of goal, but Mallard said that would come with more matches.

"We will convert more as we get a more consistent structure up forward - we are still tinkering with a few things personnel-wise," he said.

"We are over 50 per cent in terms of scoring results from inside-50s, so we are happy with that."

He singled out Ethan Cripps and 17-year-old rising star Maeva Walker as among the Kats' best players, while David Garlett was impressive up forward, booting four goals and Braedan Allison finished with three.

Russell Pyke scored the Rovers' single major.

The reserves clash played out in much the same way as the league encounter with the Kats scoring a convincing win over the Rovers, 12.12 (84) to 2.0 (12).
