Montgomery, Walter tune up for country week

While the rest of the Pilbara bunkered down to get away from the rain last Wednesday, Nickol Bay Hockey Association games went ahead undeterred in Bulgarra.

The wet field had its challenges with the ball whizzing across the wet surface only to be stopped dead by the puddles spread over the field.

Smaller teams this week made for a high-scoring game as players from both sides made fast breaks up the midfield breaking through the defence to score easily.

Tim Ballantyne was rock solid in defence for K1, while Paul Montgomery was persistent in attack.

Tania Underwood was the standout for K2, defying the goalie's' defence with repeat goals on an almost impossible angle.

Alex Walter and Montgomery are two of the players getting their final practice in this week before heading off to represent the Pilbara in country week in Perth this weekend.

Karratha has been sending a team down annually for more than a decade.

The team this year will include eight Pilbara players with the balance made up with past Nickol Bay Hockey Association members now living down south.

Nickol Bay Hockey Association runs seniors hockey on Wednesday nights and juniors on a Thursday afternoon at the Bulgarra tennis courts and new members are always welcome.
