Narrogin speedway racer Luke Nardini lands in WA after being sentenced to 60 days jail over fatal US crash

A WA man convicted of killing a couple in a head-on crash in the US is back home after serving his jail sentence. In September, Luke Nardini, a speedway racer and mechanic from Narrogin, pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanour vehicular manslaughter over the 2023 incident near San Francisco. The 32-year-old arrived back in Perth with his mum on Wednesday, 15 months after he was jailed for driving his BMW into a Ford SUV, killing backseat passengers Jack and Linda Davis, both aged in their 80s. Mr Nardini said he was scarred for life from the horror crash and his time in prison. “I’m glad to be back home and restart again,” he told 9NEWS. “Scarred for life because of it, mentally, physically, emotionally. “I wouldn’t wish it on anyone for sure, it’s been a nightmare, and being trapped in a foreign country I was unable to do a lot of things, very limited rights, isolated.” Mr Nardini said he was keen to “carry on”. Despite being back home, he remains on probation and is required to speak at schools about driver safety. The crash in the hills south of San Francisco happened after Mr Nardini crossed into the wrong driving lane because of road construction. In San Mateo County Court, Mr Nardini said he regretted that he was not able to do more to help Mr and Mrs Davis after the accident. “I attempted to attend to Mr Davis, however, I physically couldn’t manage,” he said. “Watching his life fade away at the scene is something that will haunt me the rest of my life. “I also wish I paid more attention to Mrs Davis. I will always wonder, if perhaps, I could have done something to keep her alive.”
