Perth weather: Temperature reaches 28 degrees with more warm conditions on the way

Summer is well on its way to Perth after the State reached a very warm top temperature on Friday.

The mercury peaked to a top of 28 degrees in Perth city around 2pm.

Bureau of Meteorology’s meteorologist Catherine Schelfhout said while today’s warm weather is not unheard of, it is above average this soon into spring.

“The mean temperature for September is 20.6 so we would expect a variation around that,” she said.

“It’s not unheard of to be this hot but it’s certainly been a very warm run of days recently.”

Catherine said the steady run of warm and dry conditions is “driven by a strong high from south of the State, which is directing easterly winds over much of WA.”

The weekend is expected to remain sunny but will cool off a little to 27 degrees on Saturday and 25 on Sunday.

Catherine said the south coast is the cooler side of the State with some rain on the way next week.

“There will be a weak cold front from mid to end of next week, but it won’t bring any shower activity to Perth, mostly on the south coast.”

Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley turned up the heat, reaching a scorching 39 degrees, and it is expected to top 37 degrees on Sunday and Monday.
