Pilbara healed and headstrong

Tom ZaunmayrPilbara News

Pilbara the dingo pup, who was found abandoned and in poor health on Balfour Downs station near Newman last year, has made a full recovery three months on from his ordeal.

The now devious dingo has been in the care of Ann Painter from Crossroads Dingo Rescue since being rescued.

Mrs Painter said Pilbara had big bones and a broad chest, typical of dingoes in the region, and had grown to the size of a small kelpie.

"He is a typical little wild-born dingo - very headstrong and dominant," she said.

"I've been watching him 24/7 because everything is edible in his eyes, right down to the toy box.

"He can't get on the table yet but he's not far off so I'll be in trouble when he realises he can get his legs up there."

Mrs Painter said Pilbara had been running around until the early hours of the morning chasing grasshoppers and causing a lot of mischief.

It is unlikely Pilbara will be re-homed because he has become used to the environment with Mrs Painter at Crossroads Dingo Rescue.

She said she was looking forward to living with him and the other dingoes under her care for another year.
