Nearly four weeks after cyclone Christine wreaked havoc across the Pilbara, more than 2000 tonnes of debris has been collected and processed at the 7 Mile Waste Facility and Wickham Transfer Station by the Shire of Roebourne's clean-up crews and additional contractors.

To assist with continued recovery efforts, the Shire has asked local residents and businesses to be patient in the final stages of the clean-up and help by making their own trips to the local tip wherever possible.

Shire chief executive Chris Adams said it would be several weeks before crews finished the debris collections and urged local residents to continue to manage their own waste. "While we do have a number of additional contractors assisting with the clean-up, some areas are still quite slow," he said.

"We've seen a lot of people doing their own tip runs and we'd absolutely love that to continue if people have the ability to do so.

"Every load means our crews can get through the streets quicker and on to a second round of collections."

The Shire has completed initial collections in Wickham, Point Samson, Cossack, Roebourne and Dampier, and is moving through Karratha before undertaking a second round to pick up any remaining green waste.

Mr Adams said it was possible crews still had three or four weeks of collections to go before the second round would begin.

"A number of people missed the scheduled collections because they were still away so we'll be deploying a second round of clean-up crews to collect additional green waste," he said.

Most of the damaged signage and street lighting around the Shire has been audited and is expected to be repaired or replaced by the end of March.

Residents are also being encouraged to report any areas with a high concentration of mosquitoes through to the Shire on sor@roebourne.wa.gov .au or by calling 9186 8555.
