Pilbara tourism gears up for big 2014
The Pilbara tourism season is set for some big changes and exciting developments in 2014 with the introduction of new tours and a heavy focus on why the Pilbara is a great place to visit.
The Karratha Visitor Centre is offering three new tours which take advantage of the spectacular Millstream-Chichester National Park, the Harding River and Hearson's Cove.
February will see the introduction of a day trip to Millstream which will include refreshments and lunch while visitors learn about the recent history of Millstream and its homestead, the role the aquifer plays in the water supply and a sightseeing opportunity all for about $125.
There will also be a biggest catfish catch of the day competition with the winner receiving a voucher for Banjo's Fish and Chips.
March will see the start of the Harding River half-day trip which includes a barbecue lunch and a look around the dam with a focus on local history for $55.
In April, the visitor centre team plan on introducing the KVC Barbecue Bus out to Hearson's Cove to watch the Staircase to the Moon.
The round trip includes a barbecue dinner and drinks on the beach with tables and chairs while guests watch the spectacular staircase unfold
It will be held monthly until October and will cost about $65.

The New Year could see a new public laundry and shower at the visitor centre where travellers can get some washing done while they look around.
The Roebourne Visitor Centre will be introducing some local indigenous tours to give tourists the opportunity to see life through the eyes of local people and experience their land and culture.
The Point Sampson Jetty is also getting an update for visitors with a new sightseeing area using parts of the old jetty planned for next year.
