Plans for Dampier upgrade submitted
A reinvigorated Dampier foreshore is a step closer to realisation after enhancement plans were received by the council last week.
The plan would see significant improvements to the ageing beach infrastructure, including public art, a foreshore promenade, more shade and a beachside pavilion.
Visitors to the port town would also enjoy an upgraded entrance, with a perforated steel backdrop behind Red Dog, better shade and a camera stand for snaps with the Pilbara wanderer.
Dampier Community Association treasurer Amanda Rieck said the plan would now be put over to their working groups to ensure the City and DCA were on the same page.
"Unfortunately, Dampier residents have been through a number of years of consultation with little result," she said.
"The importance of the City of Karratha delivering components of this plan in 2015 as stated in the Foreshore Enhancement Plan workshop held in November 2014 is paramount in improving our resident's view of the Council's ability to follow through.
"This master plan incorporates a number of the components in Dampier's five-year plan while also improving connectivity and creating a platform to make Dampier more attractive to residents and tourists alike."
Mrs Rieck said it was important for the City and DCA to deliver as much of the plan as possible with the available funds.
Preliminary cost estimates put the Palms and Hampton oval work at nearly $2.1 million.
The Windy Ridge and Shark Cage nodes have been estimated at more than $1 million each and promenade widening at $790,660.
Community and City feedback so far supports measures such as improving safety at the Hampton Oval car park, increased shade throughout the townsite, foreshore enhancement works and expansion of turf at the Palms.
Mrs Rieck said it was clear foreshore development and town beautification were high priorities for Dampier residents.
The City of Karratha were approached for comment but failed to reply by time of print.
