Roosters eye third straight title in 40th year

With the season proper starting in little over a month, pre-season training has ramped up for the four local rugby teams, all in the hope of reaching the play-offs come the end of the year.

Karratha Roosters coach Shane Nepia said there was only one ambition on the reigning champions' minds this year.

"I think other challenges are ahead of us, so I'm not so fazed about this year. I just want three from three and us to win in our 40th anniversary," he said.

"Three from three hasn't been achieved by us ever."

Across town at Bulgarra Oval, the Karratha Broncos are looking positive with more players hitting the paddock than they had this time last year.

Broncos trainer Rick Cowan said in terms of numbers and skills, the club was looking strong.

"We are actually looking for a bit more size if anything. If we can get a bit more size, we will be really happy," he said.

"We will go out on to the field every week looking to have a bit of fun and have a good social life afterwards.

"Hopefully we will be in the mix come play-offs time."

The season will kick off in early May.
