Dampier Sharks league and reserve teams claimed their third win on the trot against the Karratha Kats on Friday night in a tough pair of matches against the reigning North Pilbara Football League premiers at Millars Well.

In their first meeting in round 1 it was the Kats who came out victorious on Windy Ridge, but Sharks returned the favour last week.

In the league game, Sharks scored the opening two goals in a dominant first-half performance, which saw them leading 8.6 (54) to 4.2 (26) at the midway point.

Jason Cox (four goals) capitalised on the Sharks' aggressive play up the middle, while Zac Langdon (three goals) and James Rhodes (three goals) kicked some bruising goals from out near the 50m line.

New Sharks recruit Jarrod O'Meara (two goals) also played a strong role in his debut league game for his new club.

However, the Kats were by no means out of the match, going on a tear towards the end of the third quarter as they kicked five goals to Sharks' two to be down by only 10 points going into the last with a lot of momentum, with some good play from the likes of Frazer Palmer, Rory Miller (three goals) and Todd Kovacevich.

Any hope of a comeback was quickly snuffed out in the fourth quarter, with Sharks piling on six goals to put the Kats out of contention and lock up the game 16.12 (108) to 10.4 (64).

The win puts Sharks up on top of the ladder ahead of the South Hedland Swans, who they face at home next week, on points differential.

In the reserves, the Sharks had revenge for their one-point loss to the Kats in the season opener.

In a gritty game of football, Sharks defended a 7.11 (53) to 3.7 (25) lead coming into the fourth as Kats clawed back a few goals to close the gap before falling 8.13 (61) to 6.10 (46).
