West Coast’s Tom Barrass posts touching tribute to close friend Cam McCarthy following shock death

Veteran West Coast Eagle defender Tom Barrass has posted a heart-wrenching tribute to his close friend Cam McCarthy after his shock passing on Thursday night.

The footy world was rocked on when McCarthy was found dead at the age of just 29 prompting an outpouring of grief from across the AFL landscape.

While the pain was clear to see on the faces of his former teammates on Friday night, Barrass was also a close friend of the former Docker as he took to Instagram to pen a tribute.

“Last week, this earth lost a beautiful man named Cameron McCarthy. A man who wasn’t concerned with money or power, instead creativity and experience. A man who approached all things with energy and excitement, as if viewing them for the first time,” he posted.

West Coast wore black armbands in honour of McCarthy with Eagles captain Liam Duggan saying Barrass was incredibly strong to play on Sunday despite the tragedy.

“Cam was a good friend of TB and it’s just really sad news. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and we wrap our arms around TB,” Duggan said post-game.

“It thought it was quite strong for TB to be on the trip and lead like he did for us.”

Many people including teammates Josh Rotham, Alex Witherdan, Elliot Yeo and Coby Burgiel all sent their love to Barrass in the comments as did Collingwood’s Darcy Cameron and former Eagles Tom Hickey and Will Schofield.
