Star quick Josh Hazlewood returns to the Australian XI for the Brisbane Test, with Scott Boland the unlucky omission.

The hosts levelled the series 1-1 with a triumphant 10-wicket win in Adelaide, which followed India’s equally-comprehensive victory in Perth in the opening Test.

There are still question marks for Australia with Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja so far unconvincing at the top of the order, while India have concerns over the fitness of star quick Jasprit Bumrah.

Follow all the action from the Gabba in our live blog below.

That’s that

With 70mm of rain falling on Brisbane today there was very little cricket to be played.

We’ll be back tomorrow for day two.

Farewell!

Play abandoned

The first day has been called to a close with the rain being too much for the ground to overcome.

There was a little sunlight at the end but still rain around.

It means play will start early on day two.

Covers remain

The rain is still falling in Brisbane but there has not been a call made on play.

It’s a waiting game.

Bad signs

The rain is persisting in Brisbane and the lights have taken over.

A few fans still linger but hopes of play are fading fast.

No updates

There’s nothing happening at the Gabba with Smith and Labuschagne both having the pads off in the player’s rooms.

They will be the first to kit up if play gets resumed.

There’s grass!

There’s only a few puddles left in the outfield and green grass is the dominant feature of the ground again.

However, it is very wet and even without more rain the ground staff have a big job ahead.

Rain gets worse

The ground in Brisbane is becoming a swamp land and the chances of play starting before the last session are slim.

Huge puddles

The rain has teemed down and there are huge puddles on the ground.

An early Lunch will be taken but the Gabba does drain well.

Hopefully we get some action in the second session.
