Southampton striker Shane Long has broken the English Premier League record for the fastest goal scored from the kick-off against Watford.

Long darted forward the moment Watford kicked the ball back to a defender, trapped it and slotted home the goal, to the delight of the away fans.

The drama didn’t end there. Although it took a very long pause.

Trailing all afternoon, Watford broke Saints hearts in the 90th minute. Andre Gray pinched the equaliser and the Hornets escaped with a 1-1 draw.

That’s believed to be the longest gap between goals scored by opposing teams

It was a crucial goal too. The Saints are fighting to avoid relegation and three points would have been a mighty help.

The point lifted Watford to seventh, while Southampton are 16th, six points clear of the drop.
