Australia's Madison de Rozario has come third in the women's wheelchair Boston Marathon race, behind first-time winner Eden Rainbow-Cooper.

The Briton crossed the line in one hour, 35 minutes, 11 seconds followed by Switzerland's Manuela Schar in 1:36.41 and de Rozario at 1:39.20, just over four minutes off the winner.

In the men's race Marcel Hug of Switzerland overcame a crash around two-thirds through to capture his seventh title, setting a course record on Monday of 1:15.33, beating his own previous record and seven seconds from a world record.

American Daniel Romanchuk was second, followed by Britain's David Weir.

Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia won the men's able-bodied event, running the course in 2:06:17. Lemma's best result in his four previous starts was 30th, and he did not complete the course twice.

Lemma's compatriot Mohames Esa was second with Kenyan defending champion Evans Chebet, who won the marathon in the last two years, third.

There was a Kenyan 1-2-3 in the women's race in which Hellen Obiri defended her title, completing the course in 2:22:37 hours. Sharon Lokedi came in second place, seconds later, followed by two-time Boston winner Edna Kiplagat.
