Melbourne Cup 2023: WA punter turns two dollars into $100,000 as Without A Fight wins

VideoThe 163rd Melbourne Cup has delivered a rare piece of racing history, with champion jockey Mark Zahra steering Without A Fight to a famous victory. The horse became just the 12th to complete the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double, in a fairytale win.

WA-born jockey Mark Zahra’s back-to-back Melbourne Cup win has seen one lucky local punter turn $2 into more than $100,000.

After taking out Australia’s biggest race by more than a length on Irish gelding Without A Fight, Zahra celebrated his second Cup win

“I reckon winning one helps here you just go in so much more confident you know like because when you you haven’t won one you’re like I might never get the chance when you’ve won one you can relax and say I’ve still got one at home to go into,” he said.

For WA punters, Without A Fight returned $7.50 for a win and $2.65 for a place through the WA TAB.

Second place Soulcombe and third place Sheraz paid $3.25 and $18 respectively for a place.

One lucky local punter turned $2 into $100,763 after their first four mystery bet came through, while for bolder gamblers, a $100,000 bet on the winner collected $900,000, while an $80,000 bet saw another punter walk away with $600,000.

A $1 trifecta of the first three won a West Aussie $10,668

The quinella returned $43.20, exacta $89.20, trifecta $10,668 and the first four returned $332,291.
