Even after leaving star forward Kylian Mbappe on the bench, France have handed Belgium yet another loss in the UEFA Nations League.

Two of Mbappe's former teammates at Paris Saint-Germain, Randal Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele, struck with powerful shots either side of halftime in a 2-0 win in Lyon.

The latest victory helped France make up ground in Group A2 after losing to Italy 3-1 in Paris on Friday. Italy beat Israel 2-1 also on Monday and lead the four-team table.

Davide Frattesi and Moise Kean put the Azzurri two-up in neutral Budapest before conceding in added time.

Mbappe was rested from the start despite Le Bleus seeking to avoid a third straight loss, two months after a European Championship semi-finals exit against eventual title winners Spain.

Real Madrid's new star had little pre-season preparation after Euro 2024 and played a full game against Italy. He was eased in against Belgium by coach Didier Deschamps, who sent on his captain in the 67th minute to replace Kolo Muani.

The Game AFL 2024

France extended their winning run over Belgium to four games in the Mbappe era. Starting in the 2018 World Cup semis, they also eliminated Belgium in the 2021 Nations League last four and in the Euro 2024 round of 16.

France led in the 30th minute when Kolo Muani lashed in a shot from close range after goalkeeper Koen Casteels pushed out a weak bouncing effort from Dembele.

Dembele was more purposeful in the 57th, cutting in from the right side of the penalty area to score with a rising left-foot shot.

In Oslo, Erling Haaland scored a decisive 80th-minute goal in Norway's 2-1 win over Austria and Slovenia star Benjamin Sesko scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 home win over Kazakhstan.

Haaland had to wait — after a long video review check for possible offside — for his 32nd goal in just his 35th senior international.

Norway and Slovenia each have four points at the top of Group B3 ahead of meeting in Oslo on October 10.

In Group B4, Turkey lead Wales on goal difference with both on four points after wins.

Kerem Akturkoglu netted a hat-trick for Turkey in a 3-1 home victory over Iceland, while the Welsh scored twice in the first three minutes in Montenegro and hung on for a rain-soaked 2-1 triumph.

Elsewhere, Kosovo thumped Cyprus 4-0 and Romania beat Lithuania in Group C2.
