West Coast ruckman Callum Jamieson has declared his first injury free pre-season has him ideally prepared for the rigours of AFL after re-signing until the end of 2025.

Jamieson is a strong chance to lead the ruck in round one against North Melbourne as All-Australian Nic Naitanui recovers from an Achilles injury.

The 22-year-old has played only nine AFL games but said his body was now far better prepared for the challenge of taking on players such as Kangaroos veteran Todd Goldstein this weekend.

“This has been my first full pre-season,” Jamieson said.

“I have had a few niggles in the past and a few injuries, so it has been good to get a full pre-season under way. I’m excited to get stuck into 2023 and hopefully that can hold me in good stead.

“I don’t think I’m anywhere near my best footy so I’m keen to get to work, keep learning, keep developing and get towards my best football as soon as possible.”

Defender Brady Hough has also re-signed for another two years after playing 15 games in his debut season. Recruited by West Coast at pick 31 in the 2021 national draft, Hough said he’d exceeded his own expectations last year and was keen to develop his game alongside the club’s experienced defenders.

“I didn’t really expect last year to go so well off the back of a few injuries so hopefully I can earn a spot and play a few more games,” he said.

“There are so many great leaders in the backline it’s full of stars; to learn off Liam Duggan and Tom Cole, really great young leaders. To have Shannon Hurn, Tom Barrass and Jeremy McGovern back there, I have been able to learn so much off them and hopefully I can continue to do so and apply some of their craft to my football.”
